Index Slack messages and threads so your team can search across channels and find answers instantly.

The Slack connector indexes messages and threads from your Slack workspace. Instead of scrolling through channels or using Slack’s built-in search to find a list of messages, you can ask Hadiq.io a question and get a direct answer with a link to the source thread.

What gets indexed

• Messages in public channels
• Messages in private channels (for channels the Hadiq.io bot has been added to)
• Thread replies
• Channel membership is tracked to enforce per-channel permissions

Bot messages and system events (joins, leaves, channel renames) are filtered out by default.

Prerequisites

• You must be a Slack workspace admin or have permission to install apps to your workspace.
• The Hadiq.io Slack app needs to be installed in your workspace via OAuth.

Connect Slack

1. Go to Admin > Connectors

   In your Hadiq.io instance, navigate to Admin Panel > Connectors and select Slack.

2. Authorize with OAuth

   Click Authorize. You’ll be redirected to Slack to approve the Hadiq.io app. Sign in with a workspace admin account and click Allow.

   Once authorized, you’ll be redirected back to Hadiq.io with the credentials saved.

3. Configure channels (optional)

   By default, Hadiq.io indexes all public channels and any private channels the bot is added to.

   To limit indexing to specific channels, enter channel names in the Channels field (one per line, without the # prefix). You can also enable Regex matching to use regular expressions instead of exact names.

4. Save

   Click Save. Hadiq.io installs the bot into the configured channels and begins indexing. Initial indexing time depends on your workspace size.

For private channels: the Hadiq.io bot must be manually invited to the channel before it can access messages. You can do this by typing /invite @Hadiq.io in the channel.

Permission syncing

Hadiq.io enforces Slack’s channel-level access controls. Users only see search results from channels they are members of in Slack.

• Public channels: visible to all Hadiq.io users who are Slack members
• Private channels: only visible to Slack members of that channel

Automatic permission sync (where Hadiq.io continuously checks and updates channel membership) is available on the Enterprise plan.

Limitations

• Direct messages (DMs) and group DMs are not indexed.
• Files shared in Slack are not indexed (use the Google Drive or Confluence connectors for file content).
• Channels with more than 95% bot messages are automatically skipped to avoid noise.
• Messages older than your Slack plan’s message history limit may not be accessible via the API.
